Dr David Williams
Dr David Williams is a virologist and leader of the Emergency Disease Laboratory Diagnosis group at the CSIRO Australian Animal Health Laboratory (now the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness), Geelong, Victoria. This group comprises multidisciplinary capability in virus diagnostics, contributing to national and regional emergency animal disease diagnostics and surveillance. David’s research interests have included the detection, diagnosis, and epidemiology of emerging and exotic viruses that affect humans and animals in Australia and overseas. This work has focused on the laboratory diagnosis and pathogenesis of African swine fever virus. David has represented AAHL at the Global African swine fever Research Alliance (from 2013) and has been involved in workshops and missions for the FAO and OIE on African Swine Fever diagnostics and preparedness.
Dr. Lechelle van Breda
Lechelle has been with APL since May 2017 and holds the role of Manager, Production Stewardship – with her portfolio concentrating on delivering R&D outcomes relevant to biosecurity, endemic and exotic disease and antimicrobial stewardship for the Australian pork industry. In recent times she has taken on the responsibilities of African swine fever (ASF) Co-ordinator and continues to address industry’s concerns around African Swine Fever, significantly improving industry’s knowledge and ability to successfully respond to an African Swine Fever incursion.
Dr Chris Richards, Managing Director BSc, BVSc
Chris founded Chris Richards & Associates in 1998 as a pig specific veterinary clinic based in Bendigo, Victoria, servicing clients throughout Australia. Chris has been responsible for the strategic direction of the Group, which has seen the development, acquisition and/or integration of other production animal veterinary clinics, veterinary wholesale, logistics and genetics services businesses over the last 18 years. Chris is a member of APL’s Biosecurity Strategic Review Panel and is a member of the Pork CRC Research and Development Committee.
Dr Bri Fredrich
A 2016 Doctor of Veterinary Medicine graduate from the University of Tennessee (USA),Bri relocated to Australia to join Apiam in December of 2019. Bri was previously employed in the U.S. by one of the largest swine integrators in the country. While in the US, she provided veterinary oversite to 55,000 sows and their associated wean to market growouts.Her special interests include Day 1 Pig Care, Farrowing House Management, Mycoplasma Elimination, and Biosecurity Implementation.
Dr Regina Fogarty
Regina is a pig vet with over 30 years’ experience in both the public and private sector. She has recently commenced work with Agriculture Victoria as Principal Veterinary Officer – Pigs, at Epsom in the Chief Veterinary Officer’s Unit. She spent the previous three years working as a pig veterinarian with Rivalea. Regina worked for NSW DPI for 25 years, initially as a pig veterinarian in a state wide role and then more broadly managing animal welfare, then extension and research service delivery in agriculture, and agricultural policy. She is currently the secretary of the Australian Pig Veterinarians and is the scientific coordinator for their annual conference.
