Andrew Westman, AGS Senior Lawyer
Andrew is a property specialist primarily practising in the area of commercial leasing. He joined AGS in June 2016 from private practice, where he acted for large national and international tenants in all aspects of commercial property law.
His experience includes acting for a major Australian telecommunications carrier for property and leasing work in all Australian jurisdictions and for a large international retailer to negotiate precedent leases with major landlords across Australia. He has negotiated surrender of lease from a large commercial office for an international non-profit, including advising on the enforceability of clawback provisions, and acted for an international retailer to negotiate greenfields retail stores across Australia.
Andrew has provided high-level advice to a large Australian franchisee on the effect of the Unfair Contract Terms amendments to the Australian Consumer Law and also to a national tenant entering a complex joint-venture arrangement where its sites would be sub-leased to a joint entity, with step-in rights back to the original tenant. He completed his Master of Laws in 2018 at the Australian National University.
