Medical treatment decision making for the person who lacks capacity

Held on: Tuesday 21st May 2019

Where: Online - join via your computer!

Your Presenter: Dr Barbara Hayes

Cost: Complimentary

About the webinar:

In Victoria, Advance Care Directives can be completed by a person with capacity for a time when they lose medical decision making capacity. How then can decisions be made, and medical treatment plans be developed, for a person who has already lost capacity and who has not completed a written Advance Care Directive? All is not lost! This presentation will discuss how a person’s known preferences and values can be captured in writing after loss of capacity, and how they are applied to medical treatment decisions

About the presenter:

Dr Barbara Hayes is the Clinical Lead for Advance Care Planning at Northern Health, Melbourne. She has a background in Palliative Medicine and an interest in ethics and law at end-of-life. Barbara chaired a DHHS Working Group that developed resources for people who lack capacity to complete an Advance Care Directive. The Clinician Guide and the Medical Treatment Decision Maker Guide for medical treatment decision making are available on the Office of the Public Advocate Victoria website
